Our journey
to Open Adoption began with an information session at the Independent Adoption Center
in Los Angeles. The Independent Adoption Center (IAC) is a counseling-based,
licensed, nonprofit agency instrumental in pioneering open adoption. The information
session introduced us to open adoption, IAC's counseling-based approach, the costs
and steps to adoption. We were able to ask questions and experience adoption first-hand
by listening to a couple who recently adopted.
The IAC did not have any exclusionary policies for adoptive parents, including age,
sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, religion, ethnic
background, color, or race. Their outreach programs and counseling-based philosophy
for adoption was extremely appealing. We signed-up and our exciting journey began!!
